This big nocturnal, Kansas whitetail buck , antlers still in velvet, was hard to capture on one of my friend Scott Morgan’s many trail cams. Scott has several cameras scattered over a wide area near his home in eastern Kansas. He’s hoping to get a shot of a cougar that has been sighted in the vicinity. So far no luck on the cougar but lots of deer and turkey.

Hi Bruce! Yah, that’s a pretty fair buck. I think things are trending up here in NE Kansas for bucks. I have another cam out on the Walnut creek drainage 340 miles west that hasn’t been checked since early May! It’s at an isolated spot that, well, is one lonely place. Even the landowners haven’t been back there. There might not be crap on the cam, who knows. Nonetheless, I can’t wait to get back in there and change out the card. If there’s anything interesting, I’ll post it here.
Trail cam shots can sure be interesting, especially the closeups that look like animals doing selfies. Amazing how those big bucks can disappear from sight.
